The Gold Coast is Australia's most popular leisure destination with beautiful sandy beaches, theme  parks, excellent  restaurants, a huge choice of accommodation,  nightlife and lots of attractions.

But, before European settlement, the Gold Coast and hinterland were natural areas of timbered mountains and hills, river valleys, floodplains, salt and freshwater wetlands.

Low sand hills and long white beaches marked the place where the land finally met the waters of the Pacific Ocean. The land, rivers, the sea, the flora and fauna all formed the home of the Aboriginal people.

Half Day Tours depart from Main Beach (just past Seaworld) and Full Day Tours from Runaway Bay on the Gold Coast and tour across the broadwater to Wavebreak Island and/or South Stradbroke Island.

Very few locations have the level of diversity and abundance of fish life in an area so easily accessed as the Gold Coast Seaway (which is also reported as the best dive area in any Australian city).

What enhances this marine habitat (with approx. 200 species of fish) is its geographical location – where the subtropical currents meet the temperate currents and an annual water temperature range of between 19 degrees C in winter to 27 degrees C in summer.  But it’s not only the fish you may encounter but also wild bottlenose dolphins, stingray and turtles, perhaps even humpback whales during their east-coast migration from May through September.

South Stradbroke Island is a beautiful getaway which lies opposite Southport to the north of Main Beach on the Gold Coast.  Being only 200 metres from the northern end of the Gold Coast Spit, makes South Stradbroke easily accessible for your kayak adventure.

The island consists mainly of sand, sand dunes and subtropical forest. It is a stunning natural environment with 22km by 2.5 km of open beaches, unique wetland and a vast array of flora and fauna – over 160 species of birdlife, 35 species of butterflies, goanna and the golden swamp wallaby (unique to this island). Here you will feel like a castaway, escaping the hustle and bustle of city life.
